Understanding Hip Rotations

Right hip internal rotation occurs when the the distal portion of the right foot (the toes) turns inward toward the centerline of the body. Near maximum internal hip rotation should occur at the top of the backswing when the femoral ball joint finally “gets stuck” and no further
incremental rotation of the hip joint is possible.

Left hip internal rotation occurs when the the distal portion of the left foot (the toes) turns inward toward the centerline of the body. Maximum left hip internal rotation should occur at the end of the swing with the body’s left side lined-up on the “Chi-line” and the left femoral ball joint in a “stuck” position.
